St. Louis native Joe Torry knew at an early age what life had in store for him and what he had in store for the world. He had a dream to be an entertainer. He set goals for himself and systematically set out to reach each one. Current credits include roles in Michael Jackson's music video "Remember the Time"; a co-starring role with Janet Jackson in the movie "Poetic Justice"; appearances on ABC's "Dangerous Minds" and NBC's critically acclaimed E.R.; as well as Pepsi and Nike commercials, to name a few. Today Joe Torry is still setting goals for himself and reaching for his dreams, and he wants you to do the same. With his newly founded Joe Torry "Giving Back the Love" Foundation, his dream of assisting St. Louis area youths in realizing their potential has become a reality. Within the first years of its organization, the Foundation has served thousands of area youths and strives to serve more.

Local and national celebrities from your favorite professional basketball and football teams, as well as actors/entertainers from some of your favorite television programs and motion pictures, will take part in the Sixth Annual Joe Torry and Friends Celebrity Basketball Challenge on July 12th, 2003, 4:00pm at the Savvis Center. The challenge will be hosted by the Joe Torry "Giving Back the Love" Foundation, and is yet another step toward fulfilling its mission of bridging cultural gaps and furthering the dreams of St. Louis area youths.

"Dream Through Me Essay Contest"

Joe Torry would like to encourage you to take your dreams one step closer to reality. By putting your goals in writing, you become more committed to making them come true! Joe Torry invites middle and high school students to prepare an essay highlighting your dreams, goals, aspirations, and why you feel goal setting is key to success. All essays must be type written, double spaced and titled "Dream Through Me". A minimum of 300 words, maximum 500 words. Winners will be chosen based on originality, style and content.
